Slide rules and books from László and Gyula Juszt
Brief history |
Near to the National Museum of Budapest, once were an optician store. Two opticians - László and Gyula Juszt
opened it in August 1918 after quitting from their uncle Ferenc Juszt's company. In the beginnings they sold mostly
optical instruments - e. g. binoculars, goggles, cameras, later they became a distributor of such western
companies producing slide rules and drawing instruments (A. W. Faber, later Faber-Castell, Albert Nestler, Dennert & Pape).
Juszt thought more slide rules can be sold when more literature would be available in hungarian language.
So they began publishing a book from Antal Dravucz electrical and mechanical engineer on how to use these instruments.
This was not an easy reading for those who does not have corresponding mathematical knowledge, so decided that
a guide for beginners will be published. This booklet was based on an ordinary slide rule with only 4 scales,
so everyone was able to learn using the slide rule even if the most simple rule has.

Slide rules |
Juszt produced cheaper versions of the standard slide rules under the name GENIE from the 1930s. These rules were made of cheaper wood with simpler or missing steel springs and reinforcing, the scales were simply printed on paper sheets and glued on the body.
