National Panac 840 (JE-840)
Brief History
The very representative versions of Matsushita's first handheld calculators built with American chips (JE-850, JE-855, JE-860) were first followed by the almost nondescript angular, functionalist models (JE-880, JE-881) contains Matsushita circuits, and then, in 1974 some models with interesting designs appeared again. The new JE-840, which is most similar to a Hungarian computer, the TPA Quadro, and the Panasonic JE-885U, the export version of the JE-885. The angular design and the rounded corners perfectly matched the keyboards used in previous versions. It is interesting that the appearance of the version intended for the Japanese domestic market (JE-885) is significantly different, but the characteristic curves are still recognizable in its one-color upper housing.
