Toshiba BC-601L
Brief History
Toshiba also tried to enter the six-digit calculator competition. The companies already present on the market used NEC or Hitachi chips in such machines, so the BC-601L, introduced in May 1974, also contatined a NEC circuit. The machine was more expensive than competing products, but it also had a sign change and a CE key. Although Toshiba also struggled to catch up with the competition in circuit manufacturing, in 1974 it began manufacturing chips licensed from NEC for the six-digit BC-602L and BC-603L models — which have percentage or root calculation capability, respectively. The production of the six-digit machine ceased in 1975. Instead of these, development of scientific calculator circuits began.
