Boots 325
Brief History
Among the own-brand calculators in the Boots department stores in the U.K., the first scientific model built with liquid crystal display — the 325 —, appeared in 1978. This machine and its four-function counterpart — the 314 — made in Taiwan were the first models not manufactured by Casio. The NEC chip of the otherwise surprisingly high-quality, attractive and elegant calculator may be familiar from the proprietary products of the emerging Taiwanese and Hong Kong manufacturers of the era, distributed mainly for western department and catalog stores, which could be sold at much lower prices than ones from well-known brands. Later, however, Boots returned to its previous practice and ordered its next scientific calculators with LCD display again from Casio.
