Casio fx-2500

Brief History
In 1977, Casio made up for the shortcomings of the first scientific pocket calculators equipped with liquid crystal display (fx-1000, fx-2000) with the fx-3000, which has a 10 (8+2) digit display, coordinate conversion and combinatoric functions. To compensate the lack of precedence of algebraic operations, it can handle two sets of parentheses, but no longer can calculate with ordinary fractions. The little brother of this model appeared with the designation fx-2500 for a wider audience: it had an 8 (6+2) digit display, but it misses hyperbolic, coordinate conversion, and combinatoric functions. Considering competing products in that category, it was still a good choice, on the one hand, due to its low price, and on the other hand, due to its higher accuracy (by one digit comparing to others).

The fx-2500 was modernized two years later: in the fx-330, the D897 circuit made by NEC was replaced by the new D1897, which already take care of the correct sequence of operations, and also had a set of six-level bracket registers, as well as coordinate conversion functions, which became standard. In terms of appearance, a striking change is the display, which has gray filter replacing the yellow one used by earlier liquid crystal displays.

The OEM version of the fx-330 appeared on the shelves of the Boots drugstore chain in Great Britain with model number Boots 636.
