Híradástechnika PTA-4000 (2)
Brief History
Híradástechnika Szövetkezet had been assembled some programmable calculators and searched for a more powerful one to produce that in Hungary.
A licence agreement was made between the HT and Sharp Corporation, so the production of the famous PC-1500 Pocket Computer was started in 1983.
The hungarian version manufactured in two designs: the earlier has the original Sharp markings with the model number overprinted with 'PTA-4000',
the later (1984) version has a new front panel with the Híradástechnika logo. The interiors were the same. The PTA-4000 and the printer-cassette
interface unit named KA-160 (originally CE-150) became a success - some corporations and institutes were not able to
purchase "real" computers other than this pocket computer - but its RAM capacity was not enough for some applications.
Sharp's memory expansion modules CE-151, CE-155, CE-161 were re-branded as HT MM-4, MM-8 and MM-16 with capacities 4 kB, 8 kB and 16 kB
but from 1985, a custom PCB was developed and built inside the unit which have increased RAM capacity from 3.5 kB to 19.5 kB. This model was the
PTA-4000+16, which lacked the memory expansion port.
