Bowmar TX-1000 (90410)
Brief History
After the success of Bowmar’s pocket calculator series, they decided to conquer the world of offices with its new 904 models. After the 8 (904-8) and 10 (904-10) digit models, which housed in a sleek white housing, as Texas Instruments shipped new chips to Bowmar, not only the MX series pocket calculators, but the TX series desktop calculators were developed together. One of the last desktop model, the TX-1000 (90410, without a hyphen!) was made with the same chip as the pocket-sized MX-80. The most exclusive feature is the fashionable wood grain finish of the era. Technically, unlike previous models, a single printed circuit board housed the power supply, the electronics themselves, the display, and the keyboard too. The latter is no longer based on the Klixon mechanism, but of key assemblies that allow for more reliable and comfortable use. As Bowmar tried to escape the price war of the pocket calculators, it stopped manufacturing desktop calculators in 1974, so the more complex ones with memory were never produced in series.
