Omron 8SR

Brief History
Omron closed the financial year 1975 with a very serious loss of 15 million yen, not least as a result of the price explosion of calculators. The following year, the aim was to rationalize production and revise the product structure. Unfortunately, the simpler, cheaper-to-manufacture models did not solve Omron’s problems, so the production of pocket calculators ceased in 1976.

One of the last novelties of 1976 was Omron 8SR scientific calculator using Hitachi's rarer chip, which caused a slightly different layout from similar machines. As can be seen on Commodore models, the full mantissa of the 8+2-digit results can be displayed by pressing the E↔F key in exponential mode. It is also interesting to note that the 8SR is only available in blue-white, the 8SRE (for European distribution) is only available in green-black designs.
