Bowmar Ten (901D)
Brief History
After Bowmar, a completely new competitor entered the market in September 1971 with the first American-made pocket calculator, the Bowmar 901B, the company designed newer models in addition to produce OEM versions. The soul of the machine was manufactured by Texas Instruments, so the newer models were made with the new chips they released. The new 10-digit Bowmar Ten, model number 901D was almost identical to its predecessor, except for the 10-digit Bowmar Optostic LED display and the discrete electronic parts needed for the extra two digit. After the 901D, the design and production of the smaller-sized, more elegantly designed 905 and the desktop-sized 903/904 began.
Over time, the 901D also came with multiple displays, a different colored keyboard, and a newer, less angular device housing. In 1973, the hungarian Híradástechnika Szövetkezet (Telecommunication Cooperative) assembled 1,500 units and marketed them under model number K-106.
