Sharp EL-531XH
Brief History
The new W series (EL-531W with button cells, EL-531WG with solar cell, EL-531WH with AA-sized battery) of the EL-531 product line introduced some improvements in design and functionality, too. The new random number generating functions (dice, coin, and the first 100 integer numbers), memory clearing options and calculation settings were arranged to menus. Support of the base-5 number system was a novelty, too. Sharp imroved the calculation algorithms, the most important modification is the internal precision of 14+2 digits.
In 2011, the W series were replaced by the X series. Only the design changed: simple "parallel" shape, shiny surface and color variations of the backplate presents the most striking changes. These models with minor modifications (T series) are still in production.
